My husband's gr-gr-grandfather was William Markwick. His family is listed in the 1900 Federal census in Ansonia, New Haven County, CT, USA.He has a wife "Luticia" and daughters Lettie and Allice May (my husband's great grandmother).William's occupation is listed as "circuit riding minister".I have an unidentified photograph of a man I believe to be him (taken in the early 1900s at F. H. Lee Stuido in Ansonia, CT).
I recently received a copy of the same photo from someone whose ancestor received a letter dated June 1916 from the Rev. J. M. Markwick, minister to a church in Westfied, NY.He addresses the letter to Mr. Henry Kimberly (in New Jersey)whom he calls "Cousin Harry" and refers to Harry's brother Frederick.
I am trying to make a connection between my William F. Markwick, purportedly a minister, and the Rev. J. M. Markwick. The Rev. had a sister in England (name unknown), a wife (name unknown) and a grown daughter (Evangeline--lived in Alabama) at the time of the letter. He only ministered at this church for from 1915-1918 according to their records.
I have minimal other information. If anyone has any ideas about a Markwick family in New Haven County, CT or in Westfield, NY, please contact me.There is definitely a connection, since branches of the two families have an identical portrait of one of these two men.
