I'm sure we are related too as most of the Marlands in Massachusetts came from the same area of England -- the county of Lancashire, and most from a small town called Aston-under-Lyne. They were all in the cotton mill industry after about 1850s. One of the Marlands moved and started a mill in Andover, Massachusetts.
I have several James' in my tree. Let's see if we have a link. James Marland of Aston lived 1811-1850, married Harriet Hinchcliffe, and they had (among several children) Hugh (my great-great grandfather), 1839-1900; and a son James William Marland, born 1846-1899.
Hugh emigrated to Massachusetts, then Rhode Island in 1863. Hugh had a son, George (my great-grandfather), who had a son, James A. Marland, born 1905. James A. married Sarah Elizabeth Hayes. They lived first in Rhode Island, then San Diego, California. They also had a son, James -- we called him Jimmy, who was a Marine.
Hope you find this interesting. If you see a link, I can provide more details.
