Hello, Does anyone have any information on Marley slaves from North Carolina? I am trying to find information on my family's history. My great-grandfather was John Marley, a mulatto (half black-half white). According to the 1880 census, he was born around 1830. His mother, a slave was from someplace in North Carolina. There was no mention of his father. John and his mother traveled and ended up living in Tatom Township (Columbus County) Whiteville, North Carolina. They were originally from another town in NC though, because according to the 1880 census, they were the only Marleys' in that town. John married Elcy (or Elcie). I do know that they had children (John, Mary, and later Tishue, and took in two other children to raise).Any help would be very appreciated. Not trying to offend anyone, just want information about my family. Thank you.
