The Rev. William Thompson/Tompson and his wife Katherine Treat had five children according to the records I have seen. They were Catherine, who married Robert Paine; Samuel, who married Mary Marriott; William, who married Martha Moseley; Elizabeth, who married (1)Robert Catlett and (2)William Moseley; and John, who married Elizabeth Salway. I did not know of Elizabeth Salway's other marriages. The Rev. William Thompson preached at Southwark and Lawnes Creek Parishes in Surry Co., VA.In 1679/80 he moved to Westmoreland Co., VA where he was granted 85 acres by Proprietors of North Neck of VA in 1695/6.Other sources say he moved to Westmoreland County about 1690, but he was certainly there at the death of Lawrence Washington. In the will of Lawrence Washington, Westmoreland Co., VA dated 11 March 1697/8, probated 30 March 1698, he leaves a ring (value of 30 shillings each) to friends William Thompson, Clerk and Mr. Samuel Thompson.Executors were friends Samuel Thompson and cousin Gen. Washington of Stafford Co. [This is from Nola Duffy}
I did find a record of the Rev. William selling to John Salway the following:William sold to John Salway 1 Aug 1673 property described as being near "the church at the head of Gray's Creek." Surry Co., Deeds and Wills 1671-684, p 29. Haun, p 85 has more. "Wm Thompson, Clerk, and Katherine Thomson his wife to John. Salway hath of Surry Co., for 6000 lbs. tob. sell that parcel of land commonly called Christo. Lewis nigh the Church at the head of Gray's Creek guessed to be about 70 acres bounded E. by line of marked trees running through Andrew's his old field. Southerly by the swamp which parts sd land from Joh. Whitson's land, Wh. is bounded with a valley running betwixt Wm Foreman's & the said land N. with young Luke Mizell's line of marked trees, Wit.: William Gorker, Wm. Parker, Geo Watkins, Mathias Marriott, Tho. Andrews. Was this John Salway, Elizabeth's second husband? I'm assuming Joseph Malden was first, but I have no knowledge of him. Note that Mathias Marriott is one of the witnesses.
