Keith--I recently found your postings concerning Kansas Marriotts. My husband's gg-grandfather, John Marriott Sr., was born in 1839, probably in Leicestershire, England. At age 15 he went with his father, John Marriott Sr., to Canada to work on RR construction. Ten years later (abt. 1864) they returned to England; then went to Russia, also to do RR construction, but were back in England in 1866 when John Jr. mar. Fanny (Frances) Kinch of Long Buckby, Northamptonshire. The next year they came to America, first to Canada where their first two children were born, then to Kansas where they settled south of Topeka. John Sr. either came with them or followed them to Kansas, as both men worked building the Santa Fe RR. I do not have the date or place of death for John Marriott Sr. John Jr. and Fanny had four children who lived to adulthood, all daughters, one of whom, Belle Marriott, was my husband's great grandmother. John Marriott Jr. died at Powhattan, Kansas in 1925, aged 86, his wife Fanny having predeceased him in 1917. Could you send me the dates and places you have for your Marriotts? Even if our John Sr. and Jr. are not the same as yours, which is really too much to hope for, we would so very much appreciate getting a copy of the letter your John Jr. wrote to his younger brother George, since their lives have so much in common with our Marriotts.Susanne Houston, Lawrence, Kansas.I am also sending this to your e-mail address.
