HERMAN J. MARTINMAAS, SR.January 6, 1918-January 2, 2003
SALEM - Herman was born in Polo, South Dakota. He married Viola Kuper on June 19, 1939. In 1956 the family moved to Oregon from Miller, South Dakota settling in Salem. Herman went to work for Doerflers Landscaping. Later on he went to work at a plywood mill in Aumsville for 28 years. He retired in 1979. Herman was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as an usher for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Salem Eagles. He loved baseball, carpentry, gardening, music, and playing cards. He was deeply devoted to God and his family.
Herman is survived by his wife, Viola Martinmaas of Salem; sons; Gary Martinmaas of Huron, S.D., Michael Martinmaas of Aumsville, John Martinmaas of Turner, Herman Martinmaas, JR. of Salem, Mark Martinmaas of Salem, Joseph Martinmaas of Salem, Paul Martinmaas of Salem; daughters, Patricia Gray of Eugene, Sheila Schiedler of Philomath, Sister Mary Ann Martinmaas of Salem, Theresa Durbin of Salem, Dorothy Dunham of Salem, Ann Upshaw of Eugene, Collette Aggson of Springfield, Marla Fetterhoff of Salem, Cheryl Wenger of Salem, Barbara Watkins of Salem, Selena Martinmaas of Salem; sisters, Ann Treinan of Morris, Minn., Rosie Danburg of Miller, S.D., Betty Dalton of Eureka, S.D., Frances Schlichte of West Linn; 76 grandchildren; over 50 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Visitation wil be 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sun., Jan 5 at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Ridgon-Ransom Mortuary, Salem. Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. Mon., Jan 6 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salem. Interment will be at St. Barbara Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph School.
