I'm looking for anyone who has connections to the (Irish) MARTIN surname in Iowa, circa 1830-1850. I believe this family came from County Antrim, Ireland. But I'mnot sure about that because I'm going by information disclosed in a Kansas Bio of my great grandfather, Michael John (MJ) Burke and there are several errors in this document that I have validated.MJ was a Government Land Surveyor in IA & MN, c. 1848-1859 & KS, c. 1859-1870.He was also a school teacher and a farmer.
My great grandmother, Catharine Martin, married Michael John Burke/Burk at St Raphael's Catholic Cathedral, SEP 16, 1850, Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa. Catharine's brother is Francis (Frank) Martin. Frank and Catharine were born 1824 & 1826, respectively. I know for sure that Michael John and Catharine were in both Dubuque and Jackson counties, Iowa. Then circa 1859, they moved to Shawnee Twp, Johnson county, Kansas.I have the 1880 and 1900 census records that show Catharine and Frank in Kansas.
Michael John Burke was born JAN 1, 1812, Kilcolgan, County Galway, Ireland. His parents were Rev. JohnBurke and Mary-Anne Guinness.
I'm looking for Frank and Catharine's parents and other siblings in Iowa. Michael John, Catharine, and Frank are all buried at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Johnson county, Kansas. They died 1900, 1904, & 1906, respectively.
