James and his son Elisha show in the Orange County Census of 1790. James is also listed as a soldier in the militia (pro-British) during the Revolution. They later moved to Burke County, NC. I am certain that james is the son or (more likely) the grandson of Matthew Mashburn of Northampton County who I believe was the son of Edward Mashburn of Bertie County, the well-documented schoolmaster from London, England who was the stepson of the famous Edward Lloyd.See my website:
