I wish I had more information to give you on Mary Jane and George. I have searched census records and now have to search local records. I did not know that MJ was born in Morristown. That is a help. If you have any other bits and pieces like that, I would appreciate it. George Edwards was born February 1828 in New Jersey. His father was born in Pennsylvania about 1794 and was named James Edwards. The Masker family in NJ has many different spellings in the 1800's. I assume the name is of Dutch origin. I haven't been able to pinpoint for certain which family she belonged to. On the birth record of her second son James, she spelled her maiden name Massacre. But both George and Mary Jane could not read or write. They lived in Manchester,(Paterson) Passaic County,NJ when my gggrandfather George W. was born in 1854, and in Singac, Passaic County when James was born 1858. They moved to NY at some point and had Isaac, Mary & Jesse in Chester Orange County, Ny where they lived past the ages of 72 and 68. That is my last census record for them. My ancestor George W. went to MI to marry Gertrude DeGraw in 1876 and brought her back to NY. They had 14 children. My greatgrandmother Nellie Edwards was the third child born (1881). She married and her children moved to NJ. Did your wife's family stay in NY? Any more information about Mary Elizabeth's date of birth, marriage, or her siblings would be great.
