Reading some old posts---see Number 72, of Aug. 13, 1999, by Mr. Lanham, down to number "4",in the post, a mention of "Michael J. Massengill, of Hinds Co. was in a probate record of his brother, William,...."
A Copiah Co. MS Census of 1860: M.J. Massengale,Male$10,000$33,000TN44 yr Stephen Massengale, MaleTN18 Deborah Massengale, FemaleMS12 Mike Massengale,Male (a namesake?)MS3 T.J. HILL,overseer$1,500AL30
Myinterest is in this son, Stephen, whom I believe is Stephen F. Massengale, mar. to Elizabeth (Jennie) bn TN, daugh of Bettie (Elizabeth)? VANCE,wife of John F.VANCE. (Mar. Rec'd. Copiah: 27 Feb. 1868, S.F. Massengale to E.J. Vance.)
Apparently Stephen's family stayed in Copiah Co.for they are on later censuses, even as late as 1920, in HH of their son, Robert Vance/Florence(Cameron)MASSENGILL. Copiah is not so far from Hinds Co (Jackson) MS. where Michael J. Massengale was found. John F. VANCE was an editor in Hazlehurst, and I believe Stephen was later also.I'm interested in finding any of this family's descendants who might have a photo of John/Bettie VANCE.
Please contact or post if you have any info. Thanks,WVY
