I have been researching the extended Matherly family for almost 30 years and had a book, BY THE WATERS OF DEEP CREEK, published about them 15 years or so ago.(I am working on the follow-up.)I have had many, many contacts with different branches of Lemuel's line.(By the way, "Lemuel" is a Hebrew name.)Lemuel got married in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, where Israel had moved after his marriage in Rowan Co., NC.Lemuel is also named in Israel's will, although some researchers have incorrectly transcribed the name as "Samuel", without comparing it to related records. My mother's maiden name was Matherly.I am a 5th-great-grandson of Israel, through his son (and Lemuel's brother) Banister Coleman Matherly. Many of B. C.'s descendants and some of the very early Matherly records, including a very old family journal, have remained in Mercer Co., KY, for almost 200 years.Prior to the NC & VA Matherly records, the earliest verified references found so far are in Maryland in the early and mid-1700's.
