Searching the Scottish General Records Office, I have noticed that Maders and Mathers seem to be interchangeable. Maders is a very rare surname in the U.S. I am looking for an Annie Maders, b. 23 Jul 1843, d. 21 Nov 1901 in Burlington, VT. She was married to Ethan Allen Howard. In the 1860 census, William Maders and Ethan Allen Howard lived in the same town. In 1860, Maders, 56, his wife, Ellen H., 33, had children: George, 11 Christina, 8 John, 6 Ellen, 4 Isabella, 1 William, Ellen H., and George were born in Scotland. The other children were born in NY. The GRO has a William Maders marrying a Helen Hunt, and they had a daughter Agnes Maders. Does any of this ring a bell with any Mathers?
