Eula Faye Mathes Services for Eula Faye Mathes will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel in Hugo. The Revs. James Leland Burkett and Jerry Cooper will officiate the ceremony. Internment will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. at the Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel in Hugo.
Eula Faye Mathes, formerly of Hugo, died Oct. 23, 2002 in Chickasha. She was 81.
Mrs. Mathes was born March 24, 1921 in Hugo to Floyd Gray and Effie (Forbus) Gray.
Eula married Earl M. Mathes July 30, 1939 in Hugo after a three week courtship. Earl always said his only regret was not marrying Eula on their first date. They were married for 61 years, prior to Earl’s death.
Mrs. Mathes was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Hugo. Eula was a homemaker, enjoyed sewing, reading, collecting butterflies and lighthouses and owned and operated Mother Goose Daycare for 20 years.
Due to Earl’s failing health, they moved to Chickasha in March of 2000.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, on Sept. 29, 2000; one son, Rickey Earl Mathes in 1967; one daughter; Margaret Jackson in 1992; four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law: The Rev. Lois Evelyn & the Rev. T.C. Burkett of Phoenix, Lillian Ruth & Dwight Brandon of Chickasha, Vickey Lynn & Eddie Mack of Soper and Pamela Gayle & Tom Edmonds of Davis; one sister, Pat Freeman of Hugo; nine grandchildren: Vee Michelle Burkett of Phoenix, Crystal Brandon of Norman, Jeramey & Alicia Mack of Soper; Clay Mack, Kelly Mack & Hilory Mack, all of Soper, Tucker Franks, Mason Franks & T.J. Edmonds, all of Davis; and one great-grandson, Bryce Mack of Soper.
