Robert Mathieson (sometimes spelled Mathison) b abt 1840 in Lanark LKS, son of Robert Mathieson and Mary Roberton, and brother of Marion b Lanark abt 1838, who reportedly emigrated to NZ abt 1858.
Married Eliza Stewart 14 Aug 1863 in Calton Glasgow.
Family: William b Calton 9 Jun 1864, Mary Roberton b Calton 22 Apr 1867, Thomas George b Calton 20 Mar 1869, Charles b Bridgeton 23 jun 1871, Robina b Bridgeton 19 June 1873, Helen b Glasgow abt 1876, John b Glasgow abt 1878, Isabella b Glasgow abt 1879.
Robert trained as a hand loom weaver, but by 1881 was running his own clothiers business in Bridge St, Glasgow and living at 24 Paterson St, Govan. His business is listed in the Glasgow Post Office Directory at Bridge St until 1883-4, then in 1884-5 at 16 Grove St, Glasgow. Thereafter there is no mention in the PO Directory, Voters' Rolls or 1891 census. Either some tragedy wiped out the entire family, or, more likely, they emigrated en masse. I've found no trace in Passenger Lists. In the 1881 census, son William is listed as a photographer's apprentice, and daughter Mary as a domestic servant
Robert was a cousin of my GGF, and all contact with his branch was lost over a century ago. If anyone recognises anyone above, please get in touch.
