I found through land records that Walter Matney-Mattingly lived beside Mark and Richard Mattingly. Were they his brother, cousins, or could one have been his father?
The land at the time was always willed to the descendants, but I had never seen Walter show up as receiving any property until now. I think that Walter's property from above, bordered Mark and Richards.
Walter moved to Halifax Co. Va, 1787 first, with his wife, and I'm not sure if his two sons were born yet. Some sat they were, and were Walter(2) and Brooks Matney. We can trace Walter here through land documents.
Walter then moved to Pittsylvania Co. in the 1780's
However, Walter shows up on property tax list in Montgomery Co., VA in 1782. and from here, he was in the Revolutionary War, along with showing in the US war records. I can verufy this through National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Here is some data on this Mark Mattingly/Mattenly. I have more in the Court Records of Pittsylvania Co, VA 1780s. He was a minister it appears per how the records read. I believe I saw some data in Cezar Mattingly line where Richard & Mark were of the same family. Some thought they went to NC, then to KY. Maybe somone can fill us in more on this. I think Charley posted some on this line. Carol in WA

By 1780s Richard is gone. Mark still there in Pittsylvania Co court records. Walter has bought land in Washington Co, VA in what became Tazewell Co, VA. No mention of Mark Mattingly in other Washington Co, VA records.
Now, the above states about Washington Co, however, the Northern portion was renamed Tazwell Co, and Washington is now on the NC state line, south of there. Also, Walter ends up being buried in Wythe Co, just east of there.
I have Walter showing two different birth years too. One is 1738, and the other was a few years off, I can't remember.
If any can verify this, have any comments, and also let me know about Mark and Richard Mattingly's family, it would be appreciated.
