Rick, Thank you for responding to my message.I have heard so many differnt stories about my relatives.I heard that my grandfathers people were horse thieves and changed the spelling of there last name a lot.I have also heard that two brothers got into a fight and split up.
My grandfather was raised my his brother (Clyde). Both his mother and father died when he was young. My grandfather (James Mawk) was born in Osaka, Virgina, but lived his life in Church Hill and Kingsport, Tennessee with his brother.
Right now I am trying to find a way to investigate the criminal, prison, jail records in the Big Stone Gap, Appalahia, and SE Virginia area for family info.I have heard some of the family was very wild.
I have spoken to a man in Indiana named James Mawk, who knew nothing about his family also.He recently passed due to stroke complications.
There are numerous Mauk's in a small town called Surgoinsville, Tennessee.Growing up we used to kid each other about being kend. Now it looks like we just might be.Do you have any other interesting information that you can share with me about the Mawk's, Mauk's, Mauch's.
