According to his birth certificate, which was filed by his odoptive mother one month after his birth, he was born 9-9-1877.On his birth certificate he is registered simply as George Thomas, no surname. The registration district was Guisborough, sub-district Marske, county of York. What I have is a "true copy of entry, no.199, in the register book of births, no. 22 for the sub-district of Marske stamped and dated 19th day of March, 1908."
I also have a certificate of naturalization from the circuit court of Cook County, Illinois which is dated October 17, 1904 which I have been lead to believe is a forgery since the date (supposedly) was prior to the date that the Circuit Court of Cook County started doing naturalizations. The person who told me that worked for Cook County Circuit Court and may have just wanted to get me off the phone.Bottom line the name on the document is George T. Maude
I have been able to identify my grandfather in both the 1920 and 1930 cencus' and from information taken from there concluded that he and my grandmother were married in 1910, more than likely in the Chicago area. Her name was Elenore Keller. My father, Walter Keller Maude, was told he was born in Chicago, August 16, 1913 although he was unable to find a birth certificate in Cook County and was only able to begin recieving social security after securing his elementary school records from Phildelphia.
There was a Walter Maude who came through Ellis Island in 1906, whose home was listed as Wimbleton,England who would have been in the right age range to have been George Thomas' father.I can't find this "Walter" in "The Maude Family" by Francis Maude, CAPT. R.N. which was published in 1903, nor can I find my grandfather.
