Christian, I have some Henry Maurer's in my data. I am not a Maurer but I do know about a few with the name. The Maurer family I know about did not come from what we know as Germany now days but from a part of the north eastern France where the language and the people were German before the land became part of France. The protestant churchs in that region continued to use the German language and the church records were kept in German. In fact for a few years after the region became part of France the language was German for many if not most.
I know that one branch of that Mauer family which came from teh village of Keskastel in what is now the western parr of Bas-Rhin department of France settled first in Franklin County, Ohio where a son was born in 1834 named Henry who married Adaline Emrich and began a family. Then they moved to Hennepin County, Minnesota where a son was born in 1870 and received the name Henry.
I think you need to provide a little more information to this forum about the Henry Maurer of who you are searching. For example the place where your Henry Maurer lived and if you have his year of birth or even an estimate might help some one identify him from their data. If you have found him in a census tell us the year and where the census was taken. I have found many of the immigrants from the area of France who came to the U.S. during the 1800s to be recorded as being born in Germany because their language identifed them as German in language and ethnicity.
