Elizabeth Mawson was christened 15 August 1813 at St Lawrence, Appleby, Westmorland, the daughter of Isaac Mawson (parents, birthdate and place not yet certain) and Ann/Nanny Hamilton, christened 7 April 1782 St Lawrence. Ann's mother was Jane Starrow, christened 14 Oct 1754 St Lawrence, Appleby, Westmorland, buried 21 Sept 1823 at St Lawrence, who married (date not yet known) John Hamilton birth date unknown, buried 19 Nov 1823, St Lawrence. John and Jane had eight children, including Ann. Jane's father was Thomas Starrow born abt.1730.
Isaac and Ann were married 8 June 1802, Whitbeck, Cumberland and had six children, including Elizabeth. She then had at least four illegitimate children:
1. JosephMawson, ch. 2.12.1832, Whitbeck (your ancestor) 2. Isaac Mawson b. Barnard Castle, Durham, ch. 1.5.1840 ‘Bootle’. seems to have spent his entire life in the Workhouse and died 1872 Bootle age 33. 3. James Mawsonb. ‘Bootle’, ch ‘Bootle’ 8.12.43 m Mary Metcalf (b. 1845 Noak, Westrmorland - 7 children. 4. Ann Mawson, b.1 November 1848.Elizabeth then resident Bootle Workhouse. Ann died 9 July 1909, Holborn Hill, Millom, buried Holy Trinity Church, Millom on 12 July 1909. Ann had two illegitimate children: 1. Thomas Mawson, b. 14 August 1869, Bootle Workhouse, married Betsy Willan, June qu. 1889 in Millom. They had 7 children including my maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Annie Mawson, Thomas, died 10 July 1954, General Hospital, Sunderland. Betsy died 14 June 1944, Haverigg. 2. Elizabeth Ann, b. (?) Dec qu. 1873, died after 1901.
