Perhaps the following information will assist some of those trying to find their Maxfields of OH.First off, I don't find any of those being sought (John B., Sally Ann) related to mine, but that doesn't mean they are not.
From a book at my local FHC, "Early Ohio Tax Records", the following Maxfields are shown in the years covered in the book.
John Maxfield, 1826, Crawford County.(My line)
Amos Maxfield 1806 & 1810, Franklin County, Sharon Topwnship.
A. Maxfield1810, Washington County.
That is all which is covered in that book (which is far from a complete listing of all tax records)
Another source in the BLM Land Patent Database.
1820 Gilbert Maxfield, Crawford County (brother of John below)
1821 John Maxfield, Crawford County(my line)
1831 Thomas Maxfield, Muskingum County
1837Emzy Maxfield, Coshocton County
1839Richard Maxfield, Ashland County
In 1853, Thomas Maxfield of Muskingun County also aquired land in Meigs, Fairfield, Ross and Licking Counties.
The Maxfields of Crawford County came from Vermont by 1816 (??) and in 1837 moved to DeKalb County, IL but retained ties to Crawford County and some lines may have returned and/or remained.
Perhaps those searching circa 1855 might want to check the 1860 censuses for those counties above other than Crawford for their respective individuals.(perhaps even corroborating, splitting the counties between them.)
