Barbara Elizabeth Steinau died Friday, February 21, 2003 in Oregon, Wisconsin. Mrs. Steinau was born, July 9, 1925, in Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico, the daughter of Stephen Wallace Maxson and Mary Ruteria Gillespie. She enjoyed birding, antiques, art and traveled extensively. Barbara was a first grade teacher in Roswell, NM and worked for Southwest Mental Health Center in Las Cruces, NM as Educational Specialist, Director of Children's Services, Director of the Alcoholism Program, and Director of Adult Services. She continued to educate through her private practice as a marriage and family counselor in Las Cruces, NM where she was a partner in establishing a private psychiatric hospital. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Dr. Bernard Meyer Steinau, who died in Tucson, Arizona, October 11, 2002, and her brother Robert Clark Maxson of Birmingham. AL.
Barbara Elizabeth Maxson married Dr. Steinau November 22, 1973 in Las Cruces, NM. Mrs. Steinau is survived by her first husband, Jack Thomas Waller Sr. and her brother, Stanley Wallace Maxson both of Birmingham, AL; four children: Michael Stephen Waller of Houston, TX, Barbara Lynne Washam of Hudson, NH, Jack Thomas Waller Jr. of Ridgecrest, CA and Mary Kay Brethauer of Oregon, WI; 10 grandchildren: Cassandra Ann Waller Bakker, Christian Martin Waller, Kelley Elizabeth Washam Dugan, Joel Ryan Washam, Jennifer Lynne Waller, Gregory Thomas Waller, Jack Thomas Waller, Nicholas Paul Brethauer, Laura Frances Brethauer and Anne Louise Brethauer; two great grandchildren: Cameron Story Dugan, and Lilly Bakker.
