Hi.I have started a Thorpe Family DNA Project at www.familytreedna.com under the surname Thorpe.
This project represents the first opportunity for Tharp families who believe they may be related to finally make connection with other families where no documentation has previously existed. Some of these connections may prove to go back to England in the 1500's!
We are looking for a male volunteer from the line of Benjamin Tharp/Elizabeth Maxson.Researchers have suspected this line may descend from the Thomas Thorpe (1631) line of Woodbridge, NJ, but no definitive proof has been found. We are looking for a volunteer with direct male descent back to Benjamin Tharp (no females or descendants of females can participate. It is a Y-chromosome test).
The cost of the test is $99; however, other researchers from this line are chipping in the pay for most or all of this test. The test consists of a simply cheek swab and the test kit is sent directly to the volunteer's home. The name of the volunteer is kept confidential AT ALL TIMES.
The result of the volunteer's test will be compared to the following lines which are already signed up to take the test: 1. Thomas Thorpe of Woodbridge, NJ 2. Thomas Tharp (1640) of Maryland (and later Delaware) 3. Zebulon Tharp (1750) of Virginia
Researchers are also looking for volunteers from the John Jacob Tharp line of NJ and the Jacob Tharp (Phebe Crawford) line of NJ and the Asher Tharp (Mary Trembley) line of NJ (as well as any other line that wants to participate).
Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you or another you know would like to participate in this project. This is a pioneering effort in the world of genealogy and we hope you will join us!thanks.
