Uwchlan Monthly Meeting Notes FHL Film # 0562997 - on the line for the 11 Oct 1798 marriage of Eleanor Maxwell and Daniel Kenny, under the column for parents of Eleanor Maxwell it says James (deceased) and Ann of Pikeland.
There is a 1790 census for Ann who is listed as Widow Maxfield and is living in Pikeland Chester County, PA (a widow with 2m <10 and 2f)-if you search on ancestry.com it is mistranscribed as Marfield.
In 1792 Ann Maxwell purchased land in Pikeland from Samuel Hoare on 24 Sep 1792 and sold it to Matthias Fox on 10 Aug 1799.The 1799 sale was witnessed by Benjamin Jacobs and Daniel Kenny, Jr.
The maiden name Cunningham comes from a family history left by the g-grandaughter of James/Ann. Hannah Maxwell Rigg's grandaughter (daughter of Rachel Rigg Lewis) says Hannah's parents were James Maxwell and Ann Cunningham and Ann's father was David Cunningham.A grandson of Rachel Rigg Lewis was named Maxwell Cunningham Byers. The family history says Ann at age 16 came from Londonderry Northern Ireland to Dover Delaware with her uncles William and George Dunlap who had their own ship named "William and George". She married at age 18 James Maxwell.Ann's sister Martha had previously come to this country and lived in Delaware and was married to a Mr. M'Gear. There is a letter of administration in the Delaware probate records for Martha McGear in 1765 for her husband Michael McGear.
In addition to the information already known for James/Ann's children: Eleanor (married to Daniel Kenny), Hannah (married to Hiram Rigg), Henry (married to Magdalena Whisler), James (married to Tamson Quaintance) and John (consistent with the DAR records), the family history says there was also a George who never married and Mary who married a Mr. Phipps.
Since Eleanor (b 1770) and Hannah (b 1773) were born in Pennsylvania (NY Quaker records for Eleanor; 1880 census of Hannah's 2 daughters-Ann C.Rigg Harlan and Hannah Rigg) the family likely moved from Delaware to Chester County prior to Aug 1770.
Hope this new information might open more leads.
Linda
