Who is Officer Mayden of the Winsor Missouri Police Department?
This appears to be a letter of commendation to an officer Mayden in the Windsor MO., Police Department from Chief Jim Head for professionalism and restraint in a crisis situation.Windor Police Department (letter head)
In the early morning hours of Novenger 5, 1994 while on a domestic disturbance call, Officer Mayden was confronted by a suicidal female.This Individual approached Officer Maden wtih a knife threatening to kill him.In an apparent attenpt to force the officer to shoot her.
Although the threat and danger to the officer was direct and immediate, Officer Mayden remainded calm and convinced the female that another course of action might be advisable.
At this time the subject sat down in a chair and held the knife to her wrist, threatening to kill herself.
It was at this point that Officer Scotty Blackwood arrived at the scene to assist and witnessed the events.
Officer Balackwood stated that when he entered the room he saw the subject sitting a chair with a knife to her wrist.
He went on to say that he observed Officer Mayden persuade the subject to hold up the knife at which time Officer Mayden knocked the knife from her hand with his flashlight.When the subject attempted to retreive the knife the officer used his pepper mace.
The female was thus restrained and then transported to the state mental facility in Nevada, Missouri with a 96 hour hold.
Officer Mayden is to be commended for his actions.In the face of immediate danger to himself he was able to remain calm and defuse the situation.This is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Police profession.(signed) Chief Jim Head
I found this framed letter at a garage sale in Warrensburg Missouri in the summer of 03.The person having the sale couldn't remember whose it was or where it came from.send a reply if you know, I'm just curious
