Three years of research on our Mazur name has revealed some very interesting possibilitiesand facts. The name is from Jewish origins; Masovia or Mazovia, Kingdom of Khazaria (650-1016 AD), Masorites the writers of the Masoretic Text and earlier in history the biblical tribe of Mizraim. Mizraim has connection with ancient Egypt. There is a definite line connecting all of these particulars. Another interesting name surfaced,Cardinal Jules Mazarin a French statesman who in 1455 commissioned Johann Gutenberg to print the Gutenberg Bible. There are also many references to Mazur in other belief systems which parallel with the name history.Line of caution, do not let your mind wonder off. Our name has some very interesting roots. To do some in depth research on the Mazur origins is not for the faint hearted. The name has spread throughout World taking on many possible variations. And yes my ancestors also suffered for bearing the Mazur name.
