I am hoping to find any information on the family of Iacopo Mazzei of Lucca Province, Tuscany.
I don't know as yet where Iacopo was born, but he married a Rosa Guazzelli. The lived in Castiglione di Garfagnana in 1810. In 1832, Iacopo was living in Stazzema.
One of their elder children was called LUIGI MAZZEI, who was born in Chiozza, Castiglione di Garfagnana, Province of Lucca in about 1810. Luigi died in Lucca in 1876, and according to his death certificate he was a shoemaker.
Luigi married a Rosa Lombardi (1810-1881) in Colognora, Pescaglia, Province of Lucca in 1832.
They had two children:
Erminia Mazzei (born Pescaglia 1849); Giovanni Mazzei (born Pescaglia 1852). ___________________________________________________________
Giovanni was a Plaster Figure Maker. He moved to France, and married a Evarestine Marie Lemen (1860-1912) in Nantes in 1881.
Their only child (ANDRE JEAN LOUIS MAZZEI (1887-1975) was born in Le Havre in 1887.
The family moved to the UK in about 1891.
Evarestine died in Holborn, London in 1912. Giovanni Mazzei is last noted as residing in Southampton in 1925. I can't find a death entry for him in England.
Andre (Andrew) Mazzei married an Alice Fairclough (1887-1973) in Fylde, Lancaster in 1912, and then moved to London.
He studied architecture, and was employed in restoration work at Lord Kitcheners house in Kent.
During World War I he was employed in carving artificial limbs for mutilated soldiers. He applied for service during the war, but was exempt due to the important nature of his work.
He gained employment with the Famous Players-Lasky film company in 1921 as an Art Director, and worked on over 60 British films from 1926-1952.
He also designed rooms for the Blackpool Tower and Winter Garden Co. in the 1930's.
In retirement, Andrew lived in Hannafore, Looe, Cornwall and died in 1975 aged 88.
