I am trying to find more information about my McAdam ancestors from Clontibret, including an Alice.Although she was born earlier (1857), it seems names are frequently passed down in the family through the years.Below are some excerpts from two earlier postings of mine on the "MCADAMS" board (with an S, although we think the their name in Ireland was without the S).Please check the full postings and let me know if you have information about your Alice's ancestors in Clontibret that might indicate a connection to my ancestors.
(from my posting 636 on "MCADAMS" "My ancestor from Ireland is Owen McAdam who came to Cleveland, Ohio abt. 1875, and we think is descended from Edward McAdam and Susan Lenan in Monaghan. We contacted a geneology researcher in Monaghan, Theo McMahon, who indicated that Edward and Susan were most probably from a concentration of McAdam in the civil parish of Clontibret, in a townland called Clerran. Owen doesn't show a on an IGI search, but a couple likely siblings do. Owen was born before 1864, and the listed siblings are later. The IGI search lists Edward and Susan's location as "Castleshane, Monaghan, Ireland", the same as those above. Castleshane appears to be an area of land or large estate in Clerran townland (and possibly also Tullycumasky townland)."
(from my posting 870 on "MCADAMS" "We don't have direct evidence that his parents were Edward McAdam and Susan Lenan of Clerran Townland, Clontibret, Co. Monaghan (part of Castleshane, I think). The link is based on a record of Alice McAdam, who family history says was Owen's sister. She was an Ursuline nun in Cleveland and was called "aunt Alice" by my Grandfather. The forms she filled out when she entered the order listed her place of birth and her parents, Edward and Susan. We haven't found a record of her birth in Ireland yet, but we have some IGI records that Edward and Susan had other children; Catherine, Edward, and maybe a Patrick. And we don't know when and how she travelled to Cleveland."
