KIRKENDALL in ANSON CO. NC is spelled as KUYKENDAL and KOCHINDOLPH, and that REID and REED spellings are both in that same county too, in the early settelement of that county by 1750 onwards.Anson was split into other counties of Rowan, Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Montgomery, Union, Richmond etc.So sometimes you have to check each of those counties for if your surname is found in early 1750 Records in Anson, by later formation of these counties, their lands may lie in one of these counties by 1760- 1780 as each county was then created from Anson.
We see that there are two men named McAFEE in ANSON CO. NC and they are :
James McAfee who is mentioned in a deed dated Feb. 27, 1758 when Sam'l Beason to James McAfee deed was written, and James McAFee is of the PROVINCE of NC per this deed and he purchased the land in ANSON CO. NC from BEASON for 13 pounds / 13 and this land was in Anson on south side of Clark's creek, adjacent Preston Goforth.Witnesses to this deed were :JOHN PATTON and ALEX. LEWIS.Later we see a footnote which says :
"( 5 ) Administration granted on the estate of JAMES McAFEE, EXECUTORS : ROBT. McAFEE, and JOSEPH HARDIN.Inf. Ct.of TRYON CO. NC, PROBATE RETURNS, 1771, Secretary of State Papers, ( SS 884 ) Dept. of Arch. and Hist., Raleigh, N. C. "
I am still curious about your line as my ELVIRA b. abt. 1804 NC and supposedly married a JOHN McAFEE in or near to Rutherford Co. NC, and the only census records I have of her is the 1840 Habersham Co. GA Census showing she is head of household with no husband, but the children are with her and one is in "mining" in GA;While the descendants of William Eldridge McAfee listed that both JOHN and ELVIRA were living in RUTHERFORD CO. NC, prior to their being in GA, I have never found a docment proving that ELIVIRA and JOHN were in NC, other than her census dating showing she was born in NC.We still don't know her maiden name, but all her chlidren are listed with the McAFEE surname, same as ELVIRA.
the next census is ELVIRA McAFEE's1850 Cherokee Co. GA census showing the children's names as - BURTON age 20 b. NC; SPENCER age 18 b. GA; JOHN age 17 b. GA; MAHALA age 16 b. GA; WILLIAM age 11 b. GA;COLPHUS age 8 b. GA.
By 1860 her son SPENCER McAFEE and his 2nd wife HANNAH ADELINE LANCE are in Marion Co. AR Census with his mother ELVIRA SUTTON age 55 b. NC ( Born abt. 1805 NC ) .We think she must have died after this 1860 AR census, but we really don't know where she is buried or if she just moved on elsewhere.
Spencer McAfee enlisted in ROLLA MO during the CIVIL WAR and his wife HANNAH ADELINE LANCE McAFEE died Dec. 03, 1862 after giving birth to twins with one twin son dieing too, SPENCER then put the other twin boy in the care of Hannah Adeline Lance's sister MARY LANCE.His name was WILLIAM ELDRIDGE McAFEE b. Oct. 07, 1861, Mt. Home AR, and he died June 29, 1850 in HEALDTON, CARTER Co. OK.Spencer then married 3rd wife SURILDA JANE DUNEHEW on Apr. 21, 1865 and they are found on the 1870 HOWELL CO. MO Census with young son JOHN W. McAFEE age 1.By the 1880 MO Census, we see that SPENCER McAFEE, age 48, his wife SURILDA Age 40, and all their children are then living with the family of JOHN M. CAMPBELL and wife SARAH and their children in OZARK Co. MO.
We know that Spencer McAFee and his wife Surilda and their chldren then moved back to ARKANSAS and are found on the 1900 and 1910 Boone Co. AR Census.
While our families have similar naming patterns we cannot yet see if there is any connections to each others lines or not.We know the name of ELVIRA passed on in the family as did the name of JOHN.
We also know that living in Anson Co. NC in the
What I noted about the surnames in your McAFEE line is similar surnames that are in ANSON CO. NC and MONTGOMERY CO. NC.KIRKENDALL/ REED/ REID are very well known there. We also see a JONATHAN and JOHN CARPENTER there as well in same time frame as the McAFEE and KUYKENDAL families.DANIEL and HUGH McCORMICK/ McCORMACK are also there too. There are McCURRYS but no McQUERRYS in Anson that I have in my records. The BAKERS are :AARON, FRANCIS, JAMES, JOHN, MARY, WILLIAM.Do you know where your family was prior to KY ?Have you looked at the families in and around ANSON "CO. NC in the 1750- 1810 era as so many of these families in Anson Co. NC moved on to other states both in the NORTH and SOUTH of U. S.Some moved to KY and then OHIO and some moved to SC and then GA. Anson was known to be a highway really from PA down to SC and GA and also many would move north during the periods of 1800-1820.So you find these same famiies in KY and TN and OHIO during that time period after about 1815.
Good luck with your research as we simply cannot find our JOHN McAFEE anywhere. If he existed and moved to GA from NC, then he possibly died in GA and yet we only have the land records there for our SPENCER McAFEE in Cherokee Co. GA.
