This being the Christmas season of remembering, I was out shopping when my eye was strongly drawn (from afar) to a man's tie which was on display. With curiosity, I walked towards this tie which so seemed to beckon me; I liked the colors even although I could not tell the theme of the tie from a distance, it was attractive! Upon reaching the displayed tie, I was surprised to see a scene from the Civil War!What?I studied the art work in detail...it seemed to be the soldiers working with cannons, etc. within a forest of trees.
This prompted my memory re the Civil War and how this tie represented to me the McAfees' who fought so bravely on both sides of the mighty sturggle: The Union and the Confederate McAfees'.
Immediately my memory went to the story of the FIVE McAfee brothers from Mississippi who marched off to war. These brothers fought with their most noble McAfee determination, but nonetheless, one brother died on the battlefield in VA. The other four brothers returned home with the sadness of their lost brother, and this sadness even endures into this very day.
So it was...that there in that store, I purchased the tie with the historical scene from The Battle of Gettysburg in the remembrance of a time that was within the McAfee family history.
The tie is reasonably priced at less than $15.00, all silk, and some of some muted other colors of the forest, yet there is a brightness which can only be found in silk.
I took the information from the tie label, and here is the site which carries the tie, should you wish to see or purchase one: http://ties.ecrater.comhttp://ties.ecrater.comNote: When into the site, type into the search window: Battle of Gettysberg (Yes...that is the spelling of the battle per the backside identifying label on the inside of the tie.)
The tie is handsome; but do know that it is reflective of the Union Army side. However, this one fact should not make a bit of difference to anyone...the focus, most properly, is remembering the war effort and the many McAfees on both sides who sacrificed. That is the importance!
