Hi, I've recently started researching my family's genealogy and I am looking for any information about my grandfather and great grandfather. My grandfather was Daniel McAlinden who originated from Lurgan, Co Armagh. He was born on 31.08.1891 and at some point he moved to Scotland before settling in Motherwell, Lanarkshire where he worked as a Steelworker Brakeman. He wasn't on the 1901 census and I couldn't find anything useful on the Scotlands People website so I'm assuming that he was still living in Ireland pre 1901. Daniel married Mary King at the Roman Catholic Church in Motherwell on the 6th June 1917 so he had settled in Scotland at this point. He died in Motherwell in 1954.
I believe that his father, (my Great Grandfather) was Hugh McAlinden who was born on 2 May 1873, in Lurgan, County Armagh, although I could be wrong about this. Hugh married Mary McConaghy on 14th January 1890 at Aghagallon Roman Catholic Church, Lurgan, County Armagh. He worked as a Farm Labourer and/or Fisherman.
Mary McConnaghy was born on 1 July 1873, at Aghalee, Lurgan, County Armagh.
If I have the correct Hugh as my Great Grandfather, his father was also Hugh and his mother was Mary Trainor.
If you are in anyway related to this branch of the McAlindens or if you have any information about either Daniel, Hugh, Mary McConaghy, or Mary Trainor, I'd be really pleased to hear from you.
My mother and brothers still live in and around Motherwell although I have been living in Herefordshire for the last 23 years.
