John McAnally is the son of Capt. Charles McAnally and his wife Ruhamar (said to be a Houston) of Surry (later Stokes county, NC.)Charles was a wheelwright by trade and made a fortune on the Wagon Road leading settlers to Western NC and the South. He was one of the founders of Stokes County and active in politics. He can be traced to Augusta County, Virginia and accounts of the family history was written down in 1837 by his nephew Rev. David Rice McAnally.
One of the main sources for John Mcanally has been the research of Mrs. J. roy White of Cairo, IL;she left notes of her work at the Danbury Library in Stokes County, NC.She clearly was not aware of the McAnally Bible.Do you have copies of the entries?is there any other family history with the William McAnally Bible?
By the way, John's marriage bond is found in Surry County dated 05 Octo er 1786 to Anne Stone.I think I posted some of my McAnally info on my website at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/4162http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/4162
