I have been doing a lot of McAulifee research for the last 4 years. My great grand mother Hanora McAuliffe married John Ryan in Valparaiso in 1865.She was born about 1844, in Ireland, but death certificates in those days only listed the country. Her second child was named Ellen born in Valparaiso. They moved to Missouri, where John died, and then moved to Chicago.
When I started to work on the family tree, I went to Valparaiso, and I have made several trip to the library, where they have a great genealogy section, and I have also made a trip to St. Paul's Cemetery.
There are many Mcauliffe graves there. There is one big one that lists John McAuliffe 1801-1876, Newmarket, County Cork, and his wife Catherine 1817-1915, Castleisland, County Kerry.
There is another John McAuliffe buried there, but both of these Johns had sons named Florence. It was kind of common practice in those days for parents to name children after their siblings.
I have not been able to pinpoint my great grandmother's parents, but I have thought that her father's name could be Florence.
There are not many McAuliffes left in the Valparaiso area.I have sent letters to the 2 McAuliffes listed, and they never responded.
Let me know if this helps, and also let me know if you have any records of Hanora. Also you can see there are connections to the names Florence and Ellen.
