I'm tracing my great great grandmother's family, and appear to have ground to a halt in Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright, South West Scotland.
Margaret McBain was born 1840 in Kelton/Castle Douglas to Samuel McBain and Jane Dalling. Her father appears to have been born in 1814 in Dalbeattie, and her mother was born in Ardrossan, Ayrshire at about the same period of time.
As Inverness is the stronghold of the McBain name generally, I'm curious to know how these McBains cropped up on the opposite coastline. If anyone has any information, it would be gratefully received.
