Hi, Cliff-- Chiming in late; I'm descended from this couple too (they are my GG grandparents). They are buried in the Gum Creek Cemetary in Alto, Franklin County, Tennessee; they didn't have a headstone until about 1985, when my great uncle Hubert put one up for them.
So, dates: Churchwell McBee, b. June 12, 1865; d. December 4, 1943. Malinda (as spelled on headstone) Hill, b. June 20, 1871; d. November 9, 1947.
Their children: John McBee, b. 1889, d. 1954.Married before April 1910 Margaret Susan Jane Long, daughter of Thomas Jefferson Long and Amanda Isbell. (this is my line)
Willie McBee, b. abt 1892.
Robert McBee (I guess you have this)
Also had four other children who had died before April 1910 (according to Alto census)
We've also been told the full- or half-blooded Cherokee story; I heard it from my grandfather, William Edward "Todd" McBee.I have been told there is a photograph of Churchwell and Malinda in which Malinda is clearly taller than Churchwell, who is standing on a box beside her (my uncle possibly has a copy; I'll do my best to acquire and scan it).My grandfather said that Malinda was 6'3" tall.
I have no other information on Malinda Hill but if anyone out there does, please share! Ellen McBee
