I too am looking for information on Richard Anderson Barnes and Nancy McBrien. I just recently saw your post and have been trying to dig more deeply into this branch of my family.
According to the interview that was done with Marion 'Bud" Barnes, it says that his grandfather, Thomas had a brother in Tennessee named Anderson Barnes. According to this rootsweb database,

there is an Anderson Barnes born abt. 1829 in McMinn County Tennesse and died in 1914 in Texas. His parents are named as John and Sarah Anderson Barnes. Could they also be the parents of Thomas? This could be where the Anderson names comes from in the family if it is correct.
On a side note, I enjoyed reading the article about "Uncle Bud Barnes" as my mother and her siblings refer to him. His sister Effie Barnes Hartman was my great grandmother.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Michael
