You are incorrect.I have been researching this family for 18 years.I have also tried on different occasion to receive help from the plantation owner's descendants. However, when I start to mention that I am a descendant of the slaves that this family owned; everyone seems to have nothing to say (at that point) or tell me their house was caught on fire and pictures and information was distroyed. But then I search on the internet and find inquiries that were made for further research; and it is not information that would pertain to someone starting over. I know that you are not related to the slaves, so therefore you don't care. However, I would think that when you are researching different documents that list the names of slaves, you would make note of it. For example, I found this:
LYDIA McBRYDE for "love and affection" for he son, ARCHIBALD McBRYDE, gave him negroes Henry 25 yrs old, Tilla 11 yrs old, Penny 10 yrs old.Wits David Meriwether, John Ingram, James Brooks and
LYDIA MCBRYDE for "love and affection" for her son, WILLIAM M. McBRYDE, gave him, through trustee, A. R. REID, negroes Westly 25 yrs old, George aged 22 yrs, Satira aged 16 yrs and Clarissa 14 yrs old.Wits David Meriwether, John Ingram, James Brooks.
(As you can see Lydia gave away my ancestors to her children)It is so hard to believe that a great grandchild don't have a clue about the plantation they owned (William Martin and his brother Archibald Jr.)
I also know how Archibald Sr. died (what happened).I know more about the plantation owner family, than my own. They truly treated their slave like nothing but cattle. Then I looked at Fred H. McBryde's book and of course he couldn't even give the slaves a page (besides the will of Archibald Sr.).However, their were slaves metioned in another record that was not in the will and I have no idea what happened to them (were they sold, killed or did they die).Slave descendants just want to be able to trace their ancestor as far back as Freddie did is his book to the 2nd dynasty or whatever. That is all.
They were just like the Springfield family in Madison Tennessee; when it comes to the treatment of slave and slave history (from plantation owners and descendants)I mean the slave that they owned. The Meriwethers welcome slave descendants with open arms and will also help supply a slave descendant with information and or pictures.
I also looked at Freddy's book and he stated that Archibald Sr. had a family Bible. Most plantation owners mentioned their slaves in a certain section of the Bible or had a ledger of some kind. What happened to the Bible? But that question will probably never be answered.
Also food for thought, Archibald Jr.(it is believed to very much so true) had an African American grandson. That he probably refuse to claim. His son Lucian was the father before he went off to fight in the Civil War; in which he was killed.I know and have pictures of him. He looks like a true Scots man.Probably just like his granddady or father (So for William Martin, Archibald Jr. Lydia, Julia or any of their children to not have a picture is so very hard to believe. But maybe that is the case, what ever!)
So back to the point Archibald Jr. married Julia Holmes and therefore Julia Holmes is not the mother of James McBryde.I know this for FACT! Julia Holmes-McBryde's family (her parents, sisters and brothers) also owned my ancestors.I have court records, wills, and probate records to prove it.She received my ancestors as a gift/present from her father.I know all about Julia Holmes and her parents.I was even able to find a picture of her grandmother or great grandmother.I am always willing to share information, but the key word is share.
I hope this answers your question Ms. Karen, since you lost all your research and pictures the last time I spoke to you many years ago (that's what you told me).So Julia is not the mother.Happy hunting!!!!!!!!!If this message is taking off the site or I am blocked, that's ok with me. I just needed to tell the truth about my experience and I did.
