I did get this email, but missed your earlier ones. Thanks for your persistence.
The original family notes passed on to me when I began my genealogy research listed my gr-gr-gr grandfather as William Laughlin McBurney, born in "America" Dec 02, 1805.Other notes mentioned that he was well-educated and a music teacher,(I have nothing that verifies any of that) who moved from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin. He did pass away in October,1869 (I believe I have a copy of his death record).
I need to do some digging into my notes to find out if I had anything that said his grandfather was a William Laughlin, or if that was a supposition, based on the premise that his wife was Katherine Hier, and they named their son William Hier McBurney after Katherine's father.
The Cannon connection as far back as PA is fascinating, and would certainly fit. His great grandsons were both active in the Masons, which would make some sense. I will do a little research into my notes and get back to you in a few days. You can email me directly if you wish. Thanks for the contact, and the info you provided.
