Hi, I am researching my Dougan/Dugan family from Fayette County, PA and am looking for information on a collateral line of my 4x's ggrandfather, John Dougan (b. abt. 1805 in Fayette County, PA, d. ?.)I have a copy of a family journal that states John Dougan's parents (John Dougan--d. 1828 in Dunbar Township, Fayette County, PA and Catherine McClelland--b. abt. 1767 in NJ, d. 1851 in Harrison County, OH.) and all of John's siblings.I have done research on most of the siblings and have proven what the journal states....I am now looking for any information on Cyrus Dougan, John's brother.
The journal states that Cyrus Dougan/Dugan married Esther McBurney...I suspect from corresponding with some McBurney researchers that Esther McBurney may be the daughter of Robert McBurney of Dickerson Run, Fayette County, PA.Cyrus Dougan witnessed his uncle Robert's will in 1834 and in the 1840 Dunbar Township, Fayette county, PA census, I find Cyrus Dougan (age 20-30) with a wife (age 20-30) and two children (male and female under 5).Cyrus Dougan is located living next to William McBurney (same age as Cyrus) and three dwellings away from Robert McBurney.
In the 1850 Dunbar Township, Fayette County, PA census, I am unable to locate Cyrus Dougan/Dugan, and Esther McBurney (Robert's daughter) is married (to a Howell.)I did, however, find a Cyrus Dugan (age 9) living with the Daniel Harper family (Daniel Harper was located on the same page as Cyrus Dougan in the 1840 census.)Also with the Daniel Harper family is an Albert McBurney (age 13.)I do know that there is a tombstone of Albert McBurney in Dickerson Run Cemetary, "Albert McBurney, son of John and Sarah McBurney, died 1852, aged 15 years." whom I suspect is the same Albert living with the Daniel Harper family. There are other McBurneys buried in Dickerson Run Cemetary.
I am unable to find any other information about Cyrus Dougan and would love to correspond with McBurney researchers that could possibly help me...any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Alison Bigbee
