I have used David McCallister's website for some of my research, and it has been very helpful. However, you have to be very careful when researching this family as there were apparently several James McAllisters living at the same time in neighboring counties of Virginia. Barbara and I are descended from one of them (b. abt. 1751).There is one noted on this website that I believe is of a different family. Some of his descendants have the same first names, and are about the same ages as those of our James. If I remember correctly, David mentions that he has records of several different McCallister families, so you have to sort out who belongs where. This is very difficult as their names and ages are nearly the same, not to mention the fact that I have seen where there was a bit of inter-marrying between some of them.(I'm going to look closer at this when I can.)Another headache has been the fact that many of these families settled in the border area of Kanawha and Cabell Counties which is now Putnam County. This family has been about the hardest one of my family tree to document because of these reasons and the fact that little documentation has been passed my way by relatives other than a few tintypes. But, like I said, David's site is very useful, I've gotten more information from there than any one source, and I fully recommend it.
