I read the other postings on teh message board, and thought I'd pit a word in.
There were several families of MacAmmond/McAmmond/MacCammon/ MacCamon/ MacColmant that were up in Upper Canada in the Ottawa Valley and along the St. Larence Valley & Bay of Quinte.
Once that I am connected with, is that of John McAmmond of Antrim Co. Ireland who married in Ottawa in 1830 to Jane Foster. they had 9 children. Each of their offspring had large families. Some were loggers who ended up in Northern part of Ontario near the Muskokas. Some followed the railway as it was being built across Canada into Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. An offspring of the Alberta Family is NHL Hockey Star Dean McAmmond. Another is a trainer for the Vancouver Canucks hockey team, a Bob McCamon. Bob's background is from the Gananoque families.
The St. Lawrence Valley Kingston, Gananoque/ Quinte Region were also very early settlers. SOme of those families had offspring that went into the United States such as in Kansas and surrounding areas.
Andrew. Descendant of the Ottawa Valley & also Muskoka McAmmonds
