I have been doing genealogy research since 1997 and my brick wall is my great-grandmother, Sarah Campbell, Sarah E. McCampbell or Sarah F. McCampbell - or maybe even Sarah Tomlinson (see below).
My great-grandfather,Isaac Louis Hopkins, married three times. He married Catherline Humble on 11 Dec 1870 in Benton, Arkansas, producing Lorena, Andrew Jackson, Nancy G., Louisia Elisiana and Julia A. Hopkins.
He married Sarah H. McCampbell (yet another name for her) on July 15, 1880 in NW Arkansas, producing James (Uncle Jim) and Miranda, born in 1885 in Paris, Lamar County, TX.
His third married was to Minerva Alice Carter in 1893, producing Isaac Louis (Uncle Ludie), Lucille and Bertha (known as 'Pete').
I spend all day yesterday sorting papers in my various researches (30 different surnames with 38 different spellings of the name 'Peveto' alone!).In doing so, I ran across a piece of paper in my mother's handwriting (which I had never, ever seen before) with the follwing notes: Born Guthrie, Oklahoma School teacher, Paris Uncle Jim Filman sister Aug. 8 Augustine
My mother died in 1999 and none of her siblings are alive. We have not been able to trace Miranda's brother James as to marriage or children.
And, if this weren't mystery enough, my mother always said her grandmother's maiden name was Tomlinson!
Is there ANYONE out there who can help me unravel this mystery?
