Hello Pat -
We last corresponded in 2001.I have been researching to find the parents of Sidney M. McCampbell, born in Texas in 1872, married Margaret A. (Maggie) Dickey in
Comanche County, Texas in 1893.They had childrn in Texas and in Indian Territory. In the process, I have found some information that may be of help to you.
Alexander McCampbell and Christiana Price had ten children in Alabama.Among them were -
1. Elisha W. McCampbell.Born about 1828 in Alabama.Married, October 12, 1854, to Sarah M. Chisum in Lamar County, Texas. He served in McCord's Frontier Regiment in 1863 and 1864 at Red River Station. He was listed as a voter in Montague County, Texas, 1867-1869.
2. Robert (Washington) McCampbell.Born about 1831 in Alabama.Married, 1853, to Martha Russell. They lived in Dekalb County, Alabama until moving to Lamar County, Texas after 1868.He returned to Alabama and is listed as Washington, age 51, brother-in-law, living with Amanda McCampbell (widow of onw of his brothers, James) in the 1880 census of Jackson County, Alabama.
3. Sidney F. McCampbell (note his first name).Born, December 13, 1848.Died, July 18, 1908, and is buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Jackson County, Alabama.Married Minerva E. Wilkinson.
4. John H. McCampbell.Born about 1836 in Alabama. He probably is the McCampbell who married, May 4, 1851, to Mary Ann Arendale in Alabama. He went to Texas after the Civil War and probably is the John H. McCampbell who married, March 31, 1878, to Sarah Tumblin in Lamar County, Texas.
In the Lamar County, Texas census of 1870 I have -
McCampbell, Robert39, Farmer, born in AL
M. A.36,Born in Georgia
Alexander 17, He and the other children, born
in Alabama.
Harriett R. 16 (married David P. Scott)
James H., 14
Martha H., 12(married Anderson Carter)
J. P. (female), 8
R. J. (female), 7
M. E. (female), 4
James A. Walter, 2 (married Pink Eliza ___)
James A. Walter McCampbell, Pink, and five of their children are buried in Arledge Ridge Cemetery in Fannin County, Texas.
While I have other McCampbell families in south Texas in Goliad and the Corpus Christi Area, I will continue to follow up on these families that moved across northern Texas and am always looking for new information.
