A group of us have started a McCarroll DNA project to try and sort out all the McCarrolls and find out who is related to whom. As you may know there are McCarrolls in Canada, in various parts of the United States, many in Ireland, and some in Australia. I my particular case, I am trying to prove if the MaCarrolls who settled in Pennsylvania in the late 1700s are related to those who turned up in the southern part of the United States. My ancestor, David McCarroll, was born in Virginia about 1803 and according to the 1880 census of Grayson County, Virginia, his father was born in Ireland and his mother in Virginia. I have not been able to determine which of the several MCarroll families in Virginia my ancestor descends from.
I did read about two McCarroll men, possibly brothers, John McCarroll and Lodowick McCarroll, who purchased land in 1804 in Brooke County, Virginia (now in West Virginia) in the pan-handle part of the state that borders western Pennsylvania. Does anyone know anything about these McCarroll men? I am wondering of they moved further south into the area where my ancestor came from and then west.
If you would like to learn more about the McCarroll DNA project, our website is at www.familytreedna.com/public/McCarroll. We would like to have someone whose ancestors came from Arkansas represented in our project.
