Michael McCartin b 1871 Ballnamore
I am researching my GGrandfather Michael McCartin. Born 16 Sep 1871 in Ballinamore, Leitrim. He emigrated to the US in 1891, served in the Mass Volunteers in the Spanish American War and fought in the battle of San Juan. In 1903, he married Mary Agnes Quinn originally of Roscommon. He died tragically in 1909 in Worcester, Mass leaving three young children including my yet to born grandmother.
When he arrived in the US he lived in Worcester Mass with his aunt Maria McCartin b 1862, who was a widow and her daughters Mary E McCartin b 1886 and Catherine McCartin b 1888, who were his 1st cousins. I do not know his deceased father's brothers first name who was married to Maria.
He had at least 3 siblings born of Ballinamore who settled in the Bronx, NY: Mary McCartin Gilligan b1872-1886, died 1976 (had no children), Helen McCartin Mckeon (had no children) and Patrick McCartin who had children whose names I do not know.
My GGrandfather Michael McCartin was baptised 16 Sep 1871 in Ballinamore, Leitrim to Thomas McCartin and Ellen Duigan. My GGGrandfather Thomas McCartin was babtised on 10 Apr 1844 in Fermagh, Leitrim to Michael McCartin and Bridget Hawkin McCartin. Ellen Duignan McCartin's fathers name was Bernard Duignan.
If any of these individuals match up to anyone else's research, please let me know.
