James McCleary had three sons of record. John born about 1752, Samuel born about 1755 and James born about 1758. John and Samuel served in the American revolution and I believe both received land grants in Fayette County, KY even though Samuel's 1,125 acre grant is the only one I have seen referenced. James, the father, followed his sons to Fayette County before 1798. The 1810 census for Woodward County, KY (Formed from Fayette County) includes Elizabeth McCleary. Elizabeth was the wife of James' son John and the daughter of Charles Berry, a neighbor of "Land Grant John's". Charles Berry was a first generation Scot.
I show (based upon several other sources) that the Elizabeth Berry that married John McCreary, son of James was the daughter of George Berry (cousin of Charles) and Agnes Hall, not Charles Berry.Elizabeth, daughter of Charles Berry married Samuel Henry, son of Robert Henry and Sarah Davis.
Samuel Henry birthdate is unknown. Samuel married Elizabeth Berry ca 1770. Elizabeth was the daughter of Charles Berry. Charles Berry's will was proved 15 Sept 1789 in Augusta Co VA. In Charles's will, his daughter is referred to as ELIZABETH HENRY.
Also, would like to know how Alexander McCleary that obtained land in the Borden Tract fits into this family.Age-wise, he would have been about old enough to have been a son of "Land Grant" John McCreary.
