Recently found an old magazine in my deceased aunt's possessions that I inherited. The magazine is sort of an almanac with weather, recepies, poems, stories, advertisements, health hints, etc.It measures about 9-l/2 inches long by 6-l/1 inches wide.It doesn't have the original cover. Looking inside of the magazine the name is THE OLD HOMESTEAD....Vol. VI, Atlanta, GA1884, No. 5.I could find nothing on the internet referring to this magazine. Inside I found the following entry on the CONTENTS PAGE:
LEAVES FROM AN ALBUM BY MRS. D. F. MCCLATCHEY ON PG. 24.
The article continues on p. 25. A name mentioned in the album - apparently a photograph album is "Pauline" who is at the time now dead and gone to heaven. Another name mentioned: Lula, and also Jennie and Mamie, and Josephine. The article ends with a poem, which does not state that Mrs. D. F. McClatchey is the author of the poem.
Looking on the internet for Mrs. D. F. McClatchey I found a couple of entries in old newspapers for COBB COUNTY, GEORGIA - that "she" was "visiting" someone or other....
The only D.F. McClatchey I found in other records is the following:
Latter Day Saints - LDS - Family Search - 1880 US Census:
D. F. MCCLUTCHEY (note spelling in this record) b. 1877 GAage 3, listed as "son"father b. TN, mother b. GA
LOCATION:MARIETTA, COBB, GEORGIA
Father:D. Ff. McClutcheyb. 1844, TN, age 36, grocer. wife: Addab. 1844, GA, age 36, keeping house six children are listed - one of them being D.F. McClutchey age 3.
This is not my family, but there are several references in this small magazine/almanac that I have found on GENFORUM and posted messages.
IF SOMEONE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A COPY OF THIS ARTICLE BY MRS. D. F. MCCLATCHEY OF MARIETTA, COBB, GA...just e-mail me and I will send the copy.Genealogy is my hobby and many have helped me find my family and pictures, also.
There are probably many spellings of McClatchey as there are other surnames.I hope some descendant will want a copy of this article...which gives lovely descriptions of the ladies mentioned in the album.
I live in NC and it would not be an imposition to mail within the USA or elsewhere.
