Thank you for your prompt reply, Ralph. My question really pertained to weddings, not so much about baptisms.I sent you an e-mail off-forum with a lot of names and dates, but my specific family question boils down to this:
William McCleary married Bridget Fields on 1 Dec 1855 in Oldcastle, Meath. The sponsors were Ellen Cook and Beth Graynor.
Looking backward one generation I found (but did not purchase) the baptism record for Bridget Fields in 1838, and it lists her mother as Ellen Cook.
Therefore, Ellen Cook must have been both mother-of-the-bride and witness at Bridget's wedding, PROVIDED Ellen Cook is listed by her maiden name and not her married name (Ellen Fields).
Does that all sound reasonable?Or did I multiply one-to0-many assumptions?
