I am searching for information regarding this family.Joseph Wright McClelland was b. Feb 1849 in IN (parents unk. to me), m. abt. 1872 (in prob. IL), Anna M. Brower, b. Apr 1849 in OH, d/o Arlineus Brower and Mary Mather/Marther/Mathews (Mary being Arlineus' second wife).
Joseph and Anna had five children according to the 1900 Federal Census for Fullerton, Nance Co., NE.I know the names and approximate DOBs of four:
Horace B. McClelland, b. abt. 1878 in IL, d. bef. 1900
Milo M. McClelland, b. abt. 1880 in IL, d. bef. 1900
Clarence J. McClelland, b. Jan 1886 in NE
Anna M. McClelland, b. Jan 1888 in NE
Anna had at least on full sibling, Martin Ireneus VanBuren Brower. She had several half-siblings:Sylvester, Imogene, Abel Krum, and Sarah (and possibly George?).Anna, her husband and brother moved to Nance Co., NE, abt. 1882, and her parents followed in 1884.
My interest in this family is as follows:I believe that Arlineus' wife, Mary, was Mary Brainard Mather, d/o William (Ely?) Mather and Catharine Shaylor Brooks.Mary was b. abt. 1826 in CT, and was baptized in the First Congregational Church of Haddam, Middlesex Co., CT, in 1827.She would have had an older half-brother, William, and possibly a younger sister by the name of Martha or Caroline.
Mary's marriage to Arlineus Brower is recorded as Mary "Mathews," but in his biography it states her name was "Marther."This is interesting because the Brooks family genealogy lists Catharine's husband as William Mathews, but in the marriages for Haddam, CT, he is listed as William Mather. In this same genealogy, Mary's husband is listed as Arlinus Bowers.
William and Catharine Mather can be found in the 1860 Federal Census of Pierpont Twp., Ashtabula Co., OH.He is 65 and she is 64, both born in CT.
William Mather is found in the 1870 Census for same in the household of Francis H. and Martha Follett. He is listed as a widower, age 80, b. in CT.I am sure this is the same William as 1860 because there are several neighbors who are the same in both censuses.
Catharine Shaylor Brooks was the d/o Joseph Brooks and Jemima Shaylor. She had three full siblings:Rebecca, who m. Nehemiah Brainerd, Jr.; Wakeman, who m. 1st Anna Ely and 2nd Caroline "Matilda" Rogers (Wakeman and Matilda are my ancestors); and Jemima, who m. Stephen S. Hubbard.
Joseph, Catharine's father, m. 2nd Martha Hubbard and had a large family with her. They first left Haddam, CT, for W. Springfield, MA, and later to Springfield Twp., Bradford Co., PA.Joseph d. there and is resting in the Leona Cemetery, Springfield Twp., Bradford Co., PA.
Rebecca and her husband resided in or near Haddam, CT, until his death. Then Rebecca moved to Springfield Twp., Bradford Co., PA, and lived w/a nephew's or half-brother's widow and family.
Wakeman moved from Haddam to W. Springfield, MA, and later to Springfield Twp., Bradford Co., PA.He raised a large family, and most of his children and grandchildren remained in the area with later generations moving out of PA.Wakeman is resting at Leona w/his first wife. The location of Matilda's grave is unk. to me.
Jemima and Stephen Hubbard moved about. They lived in MA, PA, NY, and then Berrien Co., MI.They are resting in the Curtis Cemetery in Berrien Co., MI.
Any information regarding the couple, especially Anna's mother's family information would be greatly appreciated.
