Michele,
My grandfather was Mark Aloysius McCloskey. He had two brothers George and Ellwood.George (born 1868 or 1869) married Jane Hamil.Jane (Hamil) McCloskey's sister married a Dougherty. Both Dougherty parents died leaving young children.George and Jane raised at least one of these children Marie (born appox 1889).Jane took some of the children (her sister's) back to Ireland and while she was there, she gave birth to her daughter Mary in March 1902.
Marie Dougherty (who had been brought up by George and Jane -- better known as Jennie -- McCloskey) later married James McWilliams.James and Marie McWilliams' daughter Monica (now married to Anthony Nelson) encouraged my parents' courtship.
Most of these events took place in Philadelphia.George and Jane (Jennie or Jenny) McCloskey and James and Marie McWilliams are buried in Holy Cross (Catholic) Cemetery in Yeadon, Delaware Co., PA.Yeadon is a suburb of Philadelphia.
I was intrigued by the McCloskey/McWilliams connection. Are you related to the group I described?
Thanks,
Thanks,Donna Stockl
