Alexander McClurg is most likely the same Alexander McClurg of Missouri, son of William & Elizabeth (Henderson) McClurg. This couple came to Polk Co Missouri from Carroll Co IN in 1840 as they are listed in both states, IN and MO for the census year 1840.Some say Alexander McClurg was born in Iowa, and he could have been, but several census say Missouri.Elizabeth Henderson had a sister who was a widow in that 1840 MO Census, Lucy Jane Henderson, who married James McClurg of Blount Co TN and she had children, Elizabeth & James Henderson McClurg. By 1850, Lucy Jane (Henderson) McClurg had moved to Davis Co Iowa. It is very possible Elizabeth went to Iowa for Alexander's birth in 1845.
William McClurg was born 1809 in Blount Co TN and married Elizabeth Henderson there. They went with the 1820 mass movement of the Big Spring/Pistol Creek Presb. Church to Carroll Co IN.William's father, John McClurg also went with William in this movement and died around 1840 in Carroll Co IN.William's Mother was Hannah Bell from Rockingham Co VA.John McClurg's father was William McClurg, b. 1755 Chester Co PA, d. 1819 Blount Co TN. William 's father, John McClurg b. Newton Stewart Scotland came to America in 1752 and setthed in Chester Co PA.He married Eliza Jackson at Lower Oxford, Chester Co PA.John's father was James McClurg of Newton Stewart Scotland, who apparently never came to America.
